ABOUT PARTNERS: 23 FILM

“Transylvanian Moviepreneurs” is a cultural project realized by the partners of the Foundation Civitas – for Civil Society, 23 FILM and PROJECTS – Iceland in the framework of the European programme RO-Culture funding programme, period September 2020 – March 2021. The project “Transylvanian Moviepreneurs” is financed by EEA funds, launched through the Ministry of Culture and Management Unit through the RO-Cultura programme.

23 FILM is an independent company based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, specialized on film development and production, project development for national and international grants and project management, concept development and production of digital content and last but not least, active participation in film co-productions.

The company was founded in 2015 by Rareș Abraham, and in 2016 it will produce the first experimental short film entitled “Venus from the East”. In 2017 the first international recognition in the area of fashion film, at the Fashion Film Festival in Miami. Another international recognition takes place in 2018 at the Canadian Film Festival for the short film “Sweet Aubergine”. 

2018 also marks the achievement of the first co-production for the short film “The Tower of Pisa” directed by Bogdan Ilieșiu. The short film “The Tower of Pisa” is the company’s first co-production to premiere at Cannes Film Festival, Short Film Corner (2019).

In the same year, the company will participate in its first feature film production, this time in

as associate producer, in the film “Don’t leave me tonight”, directed by Camelia Popa.

The company also wins a development grant in 2019 with the docu-fiction feature film “Roma Therapy” (project in development), within the National Centre of Cinematography (CNC) and a short film production grant with the project “Reuniunea” (part of the feature film “Friday 3”) under the See Cinema Network funding programme.

In 2020, the company will participate as co-producer in another feature film by fiction feature film directed by Camelia Popa, entitled “Pup-o mă 2! – Crazy Bride” and will expand its work by developing alternative film education projects.

Furthermore, the company will advance pre-production work on the first feature film produced by 23 FILM, produced and directed by Rareș Abraham, entitled “Friday, the third”, a production that will take place in February, 2021. 

In terms of the company’s involvement in various workshops, certifications, festivals and fairs, we mention the following: – participation in June 2018 at InfiniTIFF Alternative Workshop, within the Transilvania International Film Festival | TIFF, Cluj-Napoca (Romania); EMPRETEC 2016: International Entrepreneurship Development and Business Networking Program, APAR, Deva (Romania); May 2015: European Funds Accessing Expert, Macro Structural Consulting, Cluj-Napoca (Romania). 

In terms of participation in festivals and fairs, several being: Tirana Film Market, Tirana Film Festival (Albania, 2019); Venice GAP- Financing Market, Venice Biennale (Italy, 2019); Awards at Miami Film Festival (2017) and Canadian Fashion Film Festival (2018).

23 FILM is an independent production company that has succeeded in its 5 years of activity to develop in various creative areas, starting with fashion films, participation in co-productions for short films, followed by collaborations and co-productions in feature films and last but not least, working intensively in the area of project development for grants and international grants, both in terms of film production and in the area of alternative film education.
