About Creative Industries – Computer Games

The next article in the Creative Industries series is dedicated to video games. They have some of the greatest pleasures and needs of individuals, who have since become loyal consumers/users. As technological and digital developments set a new standard, from the concept of the game itself, the narrative and the way in which this universe is visually presented, were considerably restructured through technical means – all of which succeeded in rendering an increasingly complex and immersive atmosphere.

The video game interacts with a graphical interface to generate visual response on a screen and generally has a system of rewarding the user based on ticking certain objectives in the game, keeping the user always close.

In 2008, the global video game market was worth and reached $56 billion in 2011. Ten years on, as Microsoft and Sony have launched their latest generation of consoles, the Xbox Series X and PS5, the companies will all be aiming for a new generation, more and more on software and subscriptions – according to Newzoo, the video game market will generate revenues of $159.3 billion in 2020, up 9.3% from last year. It is speculated that the entire video games industry could exceed the $200 billion mark by 2023.

So, the trend is a meteoric one and at the level of exorbitant figures, but more than there is also a need at the concept level. According to Scena9, in 2018, Romania had more than 100 video game development studios and more than 6,000 professionals with revenues of more than $180 million. With such a huge demand, there was and still is empowerment and education in this regard; the need to contribute to the education of future generations of video game producers and consumers becomes urgent.

However, this creative arena is also increasingly developing, with end products going from strength to strength, a highly relevant and topical artistic area, which is precisely why the competitive market is one market that is very tight and constantly in search of entrepreneurs.
